My Pride 12
Written By: Kathryn Rodgers 7-3/4
Having pride in myself helps me continue on
with my everyday life as I know it. When people
make fun of me I ignore them because I know
most of it is not true. The teasing does not
break me down because I have pride in myself.
~My Pride
Oh my gosh, when are we ever going to
get to play, I thought. We had been at school all
day, and we were still here, waiting to play the
volleyball game. Well, I am on the A-team in
volleyball, which is the highest level team to be
on. A-team was the second to last game to play
out of five teams playing that night. Games last
thirty to forty-five minutes long if you did not
already know that little fact.
That day we had been worked so much
by the coaches, so we were very exhausted.
Feeling like a very sleepy little dog who wanted
to rest, was not the best feeling right before the
game. Finally, we got to play. Playing was so
nerve racking. All Athens teams won that night,
of course. But as I was coming off of the
volleyball court I heard a girl from the opposing
team yell out how much we sucked and how they
wasted there time coming out to play against us.
Although they had lost they were still trash
talking about us.
Instead of saying something insulting
back, even though I felt like an angry volcano
ready to erupt, I just smiled and went back to
the smelly locker room.
It takes school pride to think about
representing your school and yourself instead of
letting the bad get the best of you and saying or
doing something wrong about it. As I was walking
back to the locker room I did not feel one bit
embarrassed that the girls were laughing at me
and calling me a softy cause I did not do
something about it. That is because I knew that
I was in the right and they were in the wrong.
Even though they tried their best to conquer my
pride they couldn't, and no one ever will!
